Description
Delosperma x cooperi ‘John Proffitt’ TABLE MOUNTAIN® (Ice Plant) blooms profusely from spring through fall, offering a low carpet of bright magenta flowers. Developed to withstand cold winters by the Denver Botanic Garden and Colorado State University, it thrives in higher altitudes and tolerates dramatic temperature swings. Named after Table Mountain in South Africa and former director of Denver Botanic Gardens, John Proffitt, this Plant Select® choice brings the rugged beauty and resilience of its native habitat to your waterwise garden.
The ground-hugging mat of succulent, evergreen foliage is tinged with purple in winter, maintaining year-round interest. Growing up to 2 inches tall and spreading 18-24 inches, it’s an excellent choice for alternative yards and xeriscapes and is especially useful for erosion control when planted on slopes .
TABLE MOUNTAIN® grows best in sunny spots with gravelly fast-draining soils. Water regularly during the heat of summer but keep dry over the winter months. Fertilize once in fall with organic or natural fertilizer.
